MOOSE

Years of Service: 2022-2025
Patrol and Drug Detection

K9 Moose, a Belgian Malinois/ German Shepherd mix was only four years old when he was forced into an early retirement due to spinal stenosis and inflammatory bowel disease. He came from Slovakia and during his three years of service, he had numerous apprehensions and drug finds. He was an effective police dog from day one, having an apprehension on his very first call for service following his training!

K9 Moose is making the best of retirement, although he would have preferred to keep working. He requires a LOT of activity and low-impact exercise to keep him happy, such as long walks, scent work to keep his mind engaged, and a prescribed physical therapy program to keep his back as comfortable as possible. He loves spending time with his Mom and is never far from her side, whether it's on the couch, in the yard, or going for rides in the car.

He loves food, but due to his inflammatory bowel disease, he can only have a specialized food and treats, along with a little fruit. He loves blueberries and bananas, as well as ice. If you come to our house and try to have an iced drink, he will wait patiently at the ice machine for his scoop.

In September 2025, the family lost retired K9 Bear to cancer suddenly. K9 Moose and K9 Bear were very close, and he definitely misses Bear, as is the whole family. This year Moose is getting used to Mom's new partner, K9 Tank, although they are still deciding if they will be friends!
